Light on the terraces
Poplars, irrigation channels, and a valley that changes colour by the hour.
From the ridge above Karimabad the valley is a sequence of green shelves cut by water. The peaks stay pale while the orchards move from blossom to leaf. A day here is mostly a question of where you stand when the light drops, and whether the road toward Attabad can be taken slowly.
Passu, further up the highway, replaces the orchards with a wall of cathedral rock. The two places belong in one route only if there is time to let each one settle.
