Checking the calendar.
Hunza, Skardu, Deosai, Fairy Meadows, Chitral, Neelum Valley, and Kumrat Valley.
In a short stretch of the Karakoram Highway the terraces of Hunza give way to the water at Attabad, then to the pale spires above Passu. Skardu opens into a wide valley of the Indus. The road onto Deosai climbs into another climate. West of that high road, Fairy Meadows looks straight at Nanga Parbat. In Azad Kashmir, the Neelum runs between villages and forest.
The pleasure is the change in scale. A poplar row, then a wall of granite. We arrange private and small routes for people who want that sequence kept intact: fewer stops performed for a photograph, more time in the places that ask you to walk.
A viewpoint is not a journey. Hunza and Skardu are worth the evening as well as the arrival.
Roads, guesthouses, and trails in the high country suit a handful of people better than a coach.
Deosai, the meadows under Nanga Parbat, and the passes each have weeks when they should be left alone.
Hunza, Skardu, the meadow under Nanga Parbat, and the Neelum are separate sketches. No date and no price is attached to any of them.
Licensed photographs of the places. They illustrate the landscape. They are not records of our departures.
